It's September 30th 2018, Phillies Fan Appreciation Day, the very last game of the regular season. The third place Phils, are playing a meaningless rubber match against the Braves, the NL East Champs. I am disgusted to even acknowledge that simply because, like the Phils, the Braves are a young, up-and-coming team who obviously did something right this season that the Phillies did not do.

This season, for Phillies fans, was about as brutal as they come. A team that was considered to be a third or fourth-place team at best in the NL East greatly overachieved, and found themselves in the driver's seat for their first division championship since 2011. However, a horrendous 21-34 record over the final two months of the season not only lost them the division, but it also knocked them out of the postseason entirely, and locked in yet another losing season for the franchise.

The 2018 season has treated the Philadelphia Phillies quite well and, some would say in a sense, the year has been a nice surprise for a team that, was expected to finish in the 3 or 4 spot in the NL East, rather than be in the heart of a postseason race at the end of August. After all, this is a team that finished last season with a 66-96 record and in last place. Quite the difference and the turn around thanks to a new manager, the emergence of a true 1-2 punch in Jake Arrieta and Aaron Nola, and a renewed sense of energy and focus in the clubhouse.

The Phillies entered tonight's game versus the Miami Marlins a half-game ahead of the Atlanta Braves for first place. This was the first home game for the Phillies since the trade deadline as the they made three trades within a span of five days. The first trade, they made was last Friday for second baseman, Asdrubal Cabrera from the New York Mets. Then on Tuesday, during the non-waiver trade deadline day, they made two more trades as they traded for two-time All-Star, Wilson Ramos from the Tampa Bay Rays and left-handed relief pitcher, Aaron Loup.

The Philadelphia Phillies, have been a major surprise so far this season. Heading into the All-Star break they lead the NL East by half game over the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies, are rumored heavily in trading for Manny Machado who will be a free agent at the end of this season.
