On Monday morning, the Philadelphia Flyers announced they have decided to move in a different direction and fire GM Ron Hextall. Hextall, is a and always will be a Flyers legend, he played 11 of his 13 NHL years as a Flyer from 1986-1992 and 1994-1999; he was named GM of the Flyers in May of 2014 (5/7/14) when Paul Holmgren was promoted to Team President. The Flyers made the playoff twice and were eliminated in the first round both times. He hired David Hakstol as head coach back in 2015. This season the Flyers have struggled to start the season and sit in last place in the Metropolitan division with 22 points (10-11-2) and 15th place in the Eastern conference. Where do the Flyers go from here and how safe is Dave Hakstol job?
The Flyers will hold a news conference on Tuesday morning at 11am ET at the Wells Fargo Center.
Who I think they should hire for General Manager and Executive Vice President is former GM of the Los Angeles Kings Dean Lombardi, Lombardi won two Stanley Cups as GM of the Kings. They should also hire former Flyer, Chris Pronger as assistant GM and in a few years when Paul Holmgren retires they promote Lombardi to Team President and Pronger as the GM and Executive Vice President. That's what I would do. What the Flyers will do is anybody's guess and a lot of Flyers fans like myself are wondering why is Dave Hasktol still the head coach, if you fired Ron Hextall the guy that hired him. They need to fire Dave Hasktol like now and hire former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville who won three Stanley Cups with the Hawks. I just hope the Flyers made the right decision here and hire the right guys to move this team forward in the right direction. WE WANT THE CUP to come Back to Philly!
