The Philadelphia Eagles, were in control against the Carolina Panthers for the first 45 minutes (three quarters) and went into the fourth leading 17-0. The Panthers, offense was nonexistent for three quarters and then all of sudden in the fourth quarter, Cam Newton and the offense finally started moving the ball and scored their first touchdown in the fourth. The Eagles lead 17-6 after a missed extra point by the Panthers.
The Eagles got the ball back and had to punt the ball after six plays and had the ball for nearly four minutes. Then Cam Newton, lead a seven-play, 87-yard touchdown drive (TD Pass to Devin Funchess from Cam) in 2 minutes and 44 seconds and the Eagles lead 17-12. The Panthers, went for two and got it and the Eagles lead 17-14 with less than five minutes left.
The Panthers, got the ball after a three and out by the Eagles with less than 2:30 minutes left in the game. Cam and the Panthers started at their own 31-yard line and in only 55 seconds, in ten plays the Panthers scored a touchdown (TD Pass to Greg Olsen from Cam) to take the lead. It was 21-17 with 1:17 left and on the second play of the drive Carson Wentz threw what appeared to be an interception by Eric Reid (it was called an interception on the field) by overturned after replay review.
With just 31 seconds left in the game on 4th down the Eagles had the ball on the Panthers 14-yard line, Carson Wentz, was sacked by Julius Peppers and he fumbled the ball in the process and it was recovered by Kyle Love. The Panthers, won the game 21-17 in a fourth quarter comeback that shocked many Eagles fans including myself.
As a diehard Eagles fan, the Eagles shouldn't have lost this game, they had a 17-point fourth quarter lead at home. How the hell do you give up 21 straight points after dominating for three quarters is beyond me. I was in disbelief after this and still am 24-hours later. There is absolutely no excuses for this loss what so ever, you're the defending Super-Bowl champions at home and let an average offense comeback on your home field in the fourth quarter. Last season, this team would have put this game away and not even let them back in the game but this season for whatever reason this team just can't hold a lead. This isn't the same defense or same team for that matter as last season that's for sure, it seems like they've lost their edge and don't have that fire in them anymore. The defensive weaknesses are showing more this season because last season they had big leads and the defense was able to play less aggressive.
I blame the entire team for this loss from the coaches to the players, this was a team effort loss. From bad playing calling to not making the plays on the field. Nobody gets a pass not even Carson Wentz. This is a unpopular opinion, but Carson Wentz choked in the fourth quarter especially on the last drive, he didn't make the plays to get them in the endzone, he nearly ended the game with an interception that was overturned, some people say it was an interception. The Eagles offense didn't score enough points and in the league, in day an age of the NFL it's all about scoring points and that's how they won 13 games last year by scoring points and not letting their opponents in the game. Now to the defense, o boy what else is there to say they about them, they couldn't hold the lead and choked away the lead. The play calling by Jim Schwartz absolutely sucked and he should be on the hot seat for the way he's been coaching this season. How do you not blitz with the front four that you have is stupid. This was an embarrassing loss to the entire Eagles fanbase and I'm holding everybody accountable for this loss, it's totally unacceptable.
Next week, won't be an easy game as they travel to London, England (Wembley Stadium) to play the Jacksonville Jaguars who have loss three straight games and are very desperate themselves as they looked to end their losing streak and stay in the playoff hunt. The Eagles can't afford to go into the bye week 3-5 with their rivals the Dallas Cowboys up next in week 10 on Sunday Night Football in Big D (Dallas, Texas) and then the New Orleans Saints right after in week 11. I honestly don't know which Eagles team will show up in London next Sunday as this is their first time playing in London. The Jaguars, have won two straight years in London including a blowout win against the Baltimore Ravens last season, winning 44-7. In 2016, they beat the Indianapolis Colts, 30-27. So the Jaguars players no what it's like playing in London having done so before. This Eagles, team better not think this will be a roll over game and get arrogant and cocky or else that will come back to bite them in the ass. After the way this team loss, it wouldn't shock me if they came out and blew the Jaguars out and we see the championship Eagles team, however on the other hand it also wouldn't shock me if they didn't show up and they got blown out, I just really don't know anymore with this team. All I can say is I haven't been this frustrated and angry after a loss since week two of last season when they loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles, need to show some fight if they want to have a chance at repeating which I don't think they have a chance at doing the way this team as been playing they don't look like a championship team anymore, they're not a very good football team right now.
