Big E's View: The Eagles come up short as they lose to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship Rematch
By Eric Jacinto
This is Big E's View formerly known as Birds Eye View. Yes I've changed the name again and decided to use my nickname.
The Eagles, fall short of the come back after being down 20-3 early in the second half as they lose 23-21 to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship rematch. This was their second straight lost and third of the season as they fall to 2-3.
The Eagles, continue to play bad on defense especially in the secondary as they let Kirk Cousins throw for 301 yards but only threw one touchdown. Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs combine for 17 catches, (7 Thielen & 10 Diggs) 207 yards (116 by Thielen) and one touchdown catch caught by Thielen.
Once again, Jalen Mills got burned for a huge play as early in the third after Jay Ajayi fumbled the ball near the goal line, Kirk Cousins threw a 68 yard bomb to Adam Thielen it was the biggest play of the game. The very next play Cousins, threw a 25 yard pass to Stefon Diggs. Luckily, the Vikings only got a field goal on the drive and lead 20-3 at that point.
I don't know why Jalen Mills is still the starting corner back as he gets burned for a huge play at least once a game that as cost the Eagles the game. He either needs to be benched or moved back to his normal position safety. The Eagles, have a short week as they play their division rivals the New York Giants in the first division game of the season on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium and they apparently still on starting Mills in that game. The coaching stuff really believes in him and think he can turn it around I guess, I hope he can because this week won't be an easy task as he will likely be up against one of the best Wide Receivers in the game in ODB (Odell Beckham Jr.) or covering the other Giants WR in Sterling Shepard who ain't bad himself whose on the raise to being a star himself. Whoever, Mills is covering he better be ready and not let another big play happen or else the Eagles could be in trouble.
The Eagles need to get it together very soon like this Thursday night at MetLife or else their hopes of repeating might be over. If they don't beat the Giants this week they will fall to 2-4 with the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars up next and those two games won't be easy either. To make matters even worse they still have the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints late in the season and those are the two best teams in the NFC right now, two of the best offensives in the NFL.
I don't know what is wrong with them but they need to figure it out soon or this fanbase won't be very happy. It seems to me that they're not playing with any fire, no passion, no heart like they did last season. There's no discipline to this team right now, as they continue to make stupid and idiotic penalties and bonehead plays. I ask this where's the leadership on this team? Doug Pederson, seems lost at times as he makes some questionable play calling and his time management hasn't be great especially on Sunday. He used timeouts early on and only had one left with under five minutes left, he challenged a play that shouldn't have been challenged. It's not just DP that needs to get it together Jim Schwartz the defensive coordinator needs to do a better job. The Eagles, need to start playing like they want another championship, starting playing like the defending Super-Bowl champions!!!
