The CourtSide View: 76ers acquire Tobias Harris from the Los Angeles Clippers in a Blockbuster trade2/6/2019 By Eric Jacinto
Early this morning, Adrian Wojnarowski, of ESPN (@wojespn) broke the news that the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers agreed on a blockbuster trade. The Clippers would send Forwards- Tobias Harris and Mike Scott along with Center- Boban Marjanovic to the 76ers. The 76ers would send Fowards- Wilson Chandler and Mike Muscala and Rookie Guard- Landry Shamet. The Clippers, would also receive the 76ers' 2020 and 2021 via Miami (unprotected) 1st round picks and two 2nd round picks would also go to the LA Clippers.
I absolutely love this move by the 76ers even though they traded away Landry Shamet, we got a Power-Forward/stretch four that we desperately needed next to Joel Embiid. Now we have the best starting five in the East and the second best in the NBA. There's no better starting five in the east that is better. We get a much needed backup Center in Boban Marjanovic and another forward that can shoot the three in Mike Scott.
Did we give up to much maybe but that's because we gave up four draft picks including two-1st rounders; one of those first rounders the 2020 pick (lottery-protected) will most likely be in the late 20s anyways, the 2021 pick via Miami who knows that could be a late lottery pick or in the teens pick. We get rid of two expiring contracts in Wilson Chandler and Mike Muscala who were alright for us this season. Harris is a major upgrade from Chandler and Mike Scott is better than Muscala. Can Elton Brand keep these four together, he says the goal is to re-sign both Jimmy Butler who he got in November from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Tabias Harris in the Summer. He also needs to extend Ben Simmons, the 76ers have the money to keep all four as Joel Embiid who signed a 5-year $148 million dollar contract extinction in October of 2017. Both Butler and Harris will be looking for max deals in the summer and hopefully Brand will be able to convince both to stay in helping both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons being back an NBA Championship to the City of Brotherly Love which hasn't seen an NBA championship since 1983 when they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers.
Welcome to Philly Tobias Harris, Mike Scott and Boban Marjanovic.
