On Thursday night, the Washington Capitals finish off the Vegas Golden Knights in game five to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. They won 4-3 with a late goal by Lars Eller (Game-Winner) at 12:23 in the third period after Devante Smith-Pelly had tied the game at 3-3 at 9:52. Alex Ovechkin was named the Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoff MVP)
The Capitals and their fans waited 44 years to win the Stanley Cup and they fought hard to win this Cup. Their journey to the Cup Finals wasn't an easy task by all means as they loss the first two games of the playoffs to the Columbus Blue Jackets and then won four straight to win the series. Then they faced the back-to-back Cup champions in the Pittsburgh Penguins and beat them in six games. In the Eastern Conference Finals, they faced the top team in the East all season in the Tampa Bay Lightning and beat them in seven games. They won all four series on the road which isn't an easy thing to do.
