By Eric JacintoAnother week down as the 2018 season is coming to a close with about a month to go. The Divisional and Wild Card races are heating up. Both West Divisions are three team race. The Cleveland Indians are pretty much gonna win the AL Central and The Boston Red Sox are most likely gonna win the AL East. The defending Champions, the Houston Astros are in a dog fight for the AL West as the Oakland Athletics are a game and half out of first. The Seattle Mariners are fighting for their lives six and half games out of first.

Welcome to the final Week In Review/Top 15 Power Rankings report for August! Amazing to think that we are gearing up for the final month of the regular season and there are plenty of pennant/postseason races to monitor especially in the NL. Plus, we get to see some pretty exciting young talent get called up come this coming Saturday, September 1st. It's always fun to watch some of those young prospects get their shot at the big league level and start to prove themselves to the big league club. Who knows which one, might have enough impact on their team, that their team is able to clinch a postseason berth either! By: Chris Larson
Over the past couple of seasons, we have seen players traded mid-season that have basically gone from struggling with one team to becoming old, vintage versions of themselves with their new team. Last year, it was Justin Verlander, who was struggling with the Detroit Tigers and completely transformed himself into a whole new pitcher, with the Houston Astros. This season, it's Cole Hamels who has been nothing short of phenomenal for the Chicago Cubs. By: Chris Larson
As the calendar begins to turn to September, some teams are looking towards this season and plan on calling up players within their system to help their team get over the hump and potentially even closer to clinching a postseason berth. On the other hand, there will be a handful of teams that will participate in the September call-up process, but with a different focus in mind: the future. For those teams, the September callup process is an integral part of their rebuild process, as they evaluate the talent that they currently have within their organization, while making a plan moving forward and potentially starting to gather an idea of what their needs might be, as soon as this coming offseason. At this year's trade deadline, there were certainly a fair number of recognizable relievers who were being thrown about in the rumor mill. Some of those names ended up moving, while others ended up staying put because their team either wasn't ready to give up on the season or couldn't get a fair deal made with the acquiring team. |
